What hazards can a dirty dryer vent cause?

  • An increased risk of carbon monoxide leaks. If your dryer can’t appropriately vent, toxic fumes, like carbon monoxide, could enter your home. Carbon monoxide is especially dangerous because it’s highly poisonous, while also being colorless, odorless, and very hard to detect.
  • An increased risk of house fires. The leading cause for dryer-related fires is clogged up dryer vents. Lint is extremely flammable, and when it packs into your vents, it creates the perfect spot for fires to start. Combine that with the high heat your appliance produces, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
  • A lack of efficiency. An appliance that can’t properly vent won’t run as well, meaning you’ll be running your dryer 2 – 3 times just to get one load of clothes dry. Not only does this put more wear on the dryer, but it causes your clothes to wear out faster too.
